Bradshaw PHOENIX ~ Beatrice M. Bradshaw, 97, Phoenix, died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, in Phoenix. She was born June 12, 1905, in Hannibal, N.Y., to Frederick and Lillie Turton Maunder. She received a bachelors degree at Syracuse University and a masters degree from Hartford Theological Seminary in Hartford, Conn. She married Rev. Harold C. Bradshaw on Sept. 5, 1927. He died in July 1993. Rev. Bradshaw was the former first executive secretary of the Topeka Council of Churches and later held that position in Peoria, Ill., and St. Paul, Minn., where Mrs. Bradshaw taught on behalf of the Council of Churches, religious education for the Public School System. The Bradshaws moved to Arizona from St. Paul, Minn., in 1978. Survivors include three children, Rev. Henry H. Bradshaw, Joyce Questel and Faith Greenwood; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Beatitudes Life Center in Phoenix. Burial at the Valley of the Sun Cemetery in Chandler, Ariz., will be private. Valley of the Sun Mortuary and Cemetery in Chandler, Ariz., is in charge of arrangements. - - - Gabriel Nathaniel Clatterbuck Gabriel Nathaniel Clatterbuck, 26, Topeka, died May 14, 2003, at his home. He was born the son of Gabriel Ross Clatterbuck and Pamela J. Bossick Clatterbuck Duncan. Survivors include one son, Dakoda Clatterbuck; one daughter, Mariah Clatterbuck, both of Topeka; three brothers, Jeremy Clatterbuck, Will Duncan and Heath Duncan, all of Topeka; and a step-father, Wayne Duncan. Newcomer Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. - - - Walter Herbert Grundeman HOLTON ~ Walter Herbert Grundeman, 89, Holton, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at a nursing home in Holton. He was born October 6, 1913 at Netawaka, the son of Otto F. and Hattie J. Lindstedt Grundeman. He graduated from Netawaka High School, and was a lifelong Netawaka and Holton area resident. He was the owner and operator of Grundeman Construction Co., a concrete and ready-mix business. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Holton, a former member of the Board of Trustees of the church, and former president of the Trinity Congregation, and had taught Sunday school for many years at the church; a member of the Lutheran Laymans League, long time member of the Holton Cemetery Board, member of the Holton Area Chamber of Commerce, Kansas Ready-Mix Assn. and Association of General Contractors of America. He married Edna Elizabeth Persons on June 8, 1935, at Netawaka. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Donald Walter Grundeman, New Brighton, Minn.; two granddaughters, Jeanette and Annalise. Hamblin, 81, Topeka, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Topeka Midland Hospice House. Mrs. Hamblin and her husband operated a heating and air conditioning business in Phillipsburg and also were active in the Kansas Retail Liquor Dealers Association. She was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Smith County, the daughter of Fred C. and Wilhelmina Minnie Dannenberg Bierman. She graduated from Kensington High School in 1939 and attended Strickland Business School in Topeka. She returned to Topeka in 1968 from Phillipsburg. Mrs. Hamblin was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church and a member of the Moose Club. She married Martin Lee Gill on Nov. 30, 1941, in Topeka. He died Feb. 19, 1966. She married Joseph Hamblin on Sept. 4, 1970, in Topeka. He died Sept. 18, 1990. She also was preceded in death by a beloved sister and brother-in-law, Bob and Marion Bogart. Minnesota Ave., Topeka, 66605. - - - Ila Henton MARYSVILLE ~ Ila Henton, 93, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Cambridge Place in Marysville. She was born July 16, 1909, on a farm north of Marysville, the daughter of Fred N. and Jennie Peters Johnson. The family moved to a farm southeast of Marysville when she was a child and then to a farm north of Beattie when she was 7. She attended rural school and Beattie High School. She moved to Manhattan in the early 1950s. She married Tom Wuester June 30, 1966. They were divorced. She married Delmar C. Henton on June 30, 1966. They lived on farms near Oketo and near Lillis. He died in 1988. Mrs. Henton lived in Manhattan until August 1977 when she moved to Cambridge Place. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Irma Fink and Pearl Totten, a stepson, Dean Henton, and a step-daughter, Mary Toliver. Survivors include a sister, Edna Frazier, Topeka; two step-children, C. Ray Henton, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Arlene Baker, Denver. He had been ill. He was born Jan. 31, 1971, in Manhattan, to August James Hildebrand, DVM, and Callie C. Keener Hildebrand. He graduated from Wamego High School in 1990 and attended Fort Hays State University and Kansas State University. He attended Chicago Hospitality Institute of Culinary Arts where he earned a degree as a graduate chef. He moved back to Wamego in September 2002 after becoming ill. Survivors include his parents, Jim and Callie Hildebrand, Wamego; a grandmother, Ruby Hildebrand, Hill City; and two sisters, Carole Lea Dugan, and her husband, Les, Walton, and Mariah Hildebrand, Austin, Texas. Mr. Irwin was the son of Robert R. and Alice Burns Irwin. He was married in 1976 to Susie Norris. They were divorced. He was a graduate of Topeka High School and the University of Denver. He attended Washburn Law School. He worked as an independent insurance agent and later for 501 School District. He attended Light of the World Church. He was interested in antique cars and belonged to the Golden Spokes Car Club. He is survived by his mother ,Alice Irwin, of Topeka. Johnston JUNCTION CITY ~ Floyd E. Johnston, 89, Junction City, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at his home. He was born Jan. 27, 1914, to John and Sarah Warner Johnston, in Geary County. Mr. Johnston was a life long farmer and rancher who was a soft spoken gentlemen with a good sense of humor. He loved his horses, farm and also fishing. He will be greatly missed by his family. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He married Sarah Shane, Oct. 9, 1940. She died on July 28, 2000. Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl L. Bennett, Junction City; a son, Kenneth E. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at University United Methodist Church, 17th and College, Topeka. - - - John Harold "Johnny Gecko" Roberts, Jr. EVERETT, Wash. ~ John Harold "Johnny Gecko" Roberts, Jr., 69, Everett, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, surrounded by his three daughters and son-in-law at Everett Rehabilitation and Care Center in Everett. He had lung cancer at Mr. Roberts enjoyed a life of adventure to the fullest. He was born on July 16, 1933, in Topeka, to John Harold Roberts, Sr. and Catherine Domme Roberts, the second eldest of their nine children. After graduating from Hayden High School in Topeka, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as an Aviation Storekeeper, retiring in 1970 with 20 years of service. During his time in the Navy, he was stationed in Japan, California, the Philippines, and Washington at NAS Whidbey. John started and ended his Navy career at NAS Whidbey. Johns second career was with Civil Service, serving at NAS Whidbey and Keyport. He retired in 1989. At that time he began to travel all over the world. He loved traveling, the horse races, his family and meeting new people. He married the love of his life, Margaret Lillian Coleridge, on April 25, 1953, a marriage that lasted 37 years until her passing in 1989. John was the greatest father anyone could ask for. He enjoyed a life through humor and love, giving to others before giving to himself. He leaves us with a tremendous sense of appreciation for life, love and joy and will always be remembered as the character that he was. He always saw the good in everyone and somehow found a way to help them to see it in themselves. During the later years of his life, John became known as "Johnny Gecko," a nickname that suited him well because of his love and fascination for Geckos and Gecko art work. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; his daughter, Janis; and his sister, Betty Myrick. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, John and Julie Roberts III, of Fort Walton, Fla.; his daughters and son-in-law, Debbie and Donn Davis, Anacortes, Wash., Kathy Dodge and Karen Chambers both of Lynnwood, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; Michelle, Jeff, Brad, Marissa, Matthew, Courtney, Andrew, Jennifer, Ryan, Ashley, Corey, Zachary, Jessica; three sisters, Dolores Boyle and Marge Calvin both of Topeka, and Jeanette Smith, Los Alamitos, Calif.; four brothers and sisters-in-law Frank and Debbie Roberts, Jimmy and Janis Roberts, all of Topeka, Ronnie and Lori Roberts, Orlando, FL, Ralph and June Roberts of Garland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sparks had taught school in the Auburn Washburn School District for 22 years before retiring. She was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Marion County, the daughter of Walter C. and Gladys M. Higgins Kaniper. She graduated from Miller High School and Kansas Teachers College in Emporia with a masters degree in education. She lived in Scranton until moving to Topeka in 1989. Mrs. Sparks was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary and the Lions Club, all in Scranton, and the Sunflower Club in Topeka. She married James Chester DeShazer on Aug. 7, 1942, in Miller. He died Aug. 2, 1969. She married Eston Burl Sparks on Dec. 1, 1973, in Scranton. He died June 16, 1988. Mrs. Sparks also was preceded in death by an infant son, Darrell DeShazer, a daughter, Martha Jane DeShazer, and three brothers, Harold, Charles and Maurice Kaniper. Mr. Touhey was employed at Packer Plastics in Lawrence for many years and then was a machinist for Dollins Tool in Independence, Mo. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was born Dec. 17, 1952, at Wichita, to Ernest H. Touhey and Elizabeth A. Link Touhey. He grew up in Haven and attended Washburn Rural High School, Topeka. He had lived in Lindsborg for the last 10 years. Survivors include eight brothers, David Link, state of Washington, Jim Snyder, Amarillo, Texas, Bill Snyder, Las Vegas, Nev., Don Snyder, Wichita, Marty Snyder, Kansas City, Mo., Tim Touhey, Jacksonport, Ark., and Oscar Touhey and Tigger Touhey, both of Lindsborg; and a twin sister, Patty Palmer-Casebeer, Lindsborg. He was born Aug. 26, 1948, at Axtell, Kansas, the son of Leo A. and Evelyn Gallagher Cohorst. He graduated from Hoyt High School. Mr. Cohorst owned and operated the Dan Cohorst Construction Company in Topeka, and was employed by various Topeka construction companies. He served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Topeka. He was a member of the B.A.S.S. Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He married Jeanne Spigarelli on Nov. 17, 1979, in Topeka. They were divorced. He is survived by two sons, John C. Cohorst, Pittsburgh, and Drew Cohorst, Topeka; a daughter, Mia Cohorst, Lawrence; two sisters, Beverly Schreiner and Doris Brown, both of Topeka. She was born October 3, 1910, at Geistown, Pa., the daughter of George and Laura Griffith Garretson. Mrs. Dayton was a former member of the Amaryllis Chapter 321 O.E.S. of Rossville. She was a graduate of Menninger Bible Study and a member of the Rossville Literary Club. She attended the Topeka Church of the Brethren and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a former member of the Rossville Methodist Church. She married Charles G. Dayton, Sept. 23, 1933, in Cumberland, Md. He died on Dec. 3, 1992. Also preceded in death by a son, C. While earning her degree at Kansas State University, she starred in many theater productions and received numerous awards. After graduation, she was central to starting Civic Theatres in Evansville, Ind., and Pendleton, Ore. Her final stage appearance was with the Topeka Civic Theatre in "Love Letters." During the late 1960s she returned to college and earned a masters degree in speech pathology. She received national recognition for her studies with autism and hyperkinetic behavior. She taught at Eastern Washington State College, Idaho State University and the University of Kansas Medical Center. She married Donald Leroy Palmer, Aug. 26, 1950, at Kansas City. They moved to Topeka during the late 1990s. He survives. He was born April 27, 1931, in Gridley, to Perry and Mattie Crane Eccles. He worked on a dairy farm as a young man and later operated the Liberty Township maintainer. He drove for Coffey County after it took over the Township. He married Juanita Bertha Errett on Nov. 27, 1949, in el Dorado. She died March 6, 1971. Mr. Eccles also was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Eccles and a half brother, Lee Eccles. In 1972 he began work for the Pottawatomie County Highway Department, where he was shop foreman. He retired in 1992. He married Marjorie L. Bluthardt on Sept. 16, 1952, at St. Josephs Catholic Church at Flush. She survives. Mrs. Herrin was an artist and gardener. She painted in oils, pastels and watercolors as well as fabrics, including quilts that she made for hospitalized children. Her wit, humor, love and passion for beauty will always be immortalized in the many works of art she produced. Mrs. Herrin also was a singer with a clear soprano voice. And particularly proud of her Irish and Norwegian ancestry. She was born April 7, 195*5, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Fred and Helen Eisland. She lived most her life in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School in 1973. She worked at the Shawnee County Health Department as a clerical supervisor until moving to South Bend, Ind., in 1981. She attended Indiana University at South Bend where she majored in art and graduated with a bachelors degree in 1992. Under the tutelage of the artist Harold Zisla, Annie came to develop her own artistic talent. She married James "Jim" Herrin in 1994 and moved with his to Austin, Texas. He survives. Sanders, 53,died Monday, May 12, 2003, at a local hospital. He was born May 18, 1949, in Ashland, Kan., to Robert and Calla Squire Sanders of Protection, Kan. He graduated from Protection High School, the class of 1967. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts. On Aug. 22, 1970, he married Catherine Mae Stucky, the daughter of Dave and Esther Stucky, of Peabody. For 30 years, from 1972 to 2003, he was employed by Burlington/Santa Fe Railroad. His "track" experiences began in Wichita, and finally Saginaw, Texas. His railroad career began with the position of clerk and ultimately became systems program analyst. As an active member of North Fort Worth Baptist Church, he participated in the sanctuary choir, ensembles and various other committees. Throughout his life, Mr. Sanders was always a leader in the faith community. He loved basketball, trains and books. He was an avid reader and amazed everyone with his gift of retaining information. Computer technology fed his zeal for acquiring knowledge. She attended school in Bartlesville, Okla, Madeira in Washington, D.C., and the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, a life member of the Topeka Zoo and the Audubon Society and was a member of Topeka Womens Club and Phi Delta Theta Mothers Club. Mrs. Tuttle traveled extensively, including most European and Baltic countries, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Panama, Costa Rica, China, the Arctic and Antarctica. Mr. Umscheid was born Sept. 19, 1929, on his familys farm near Flush, the son of Anthony Charles Umscheid and Elsie Eleanor Cochran Umscheid. He graduated from Flush High School in 1948. He joined the U.S. Army, and served in Korea and Hawaii. He also worked briefly as a farm laborer in the Flush area. He became a mechanic and worked at Fort Riley, JC Penney Auto Service and Manhattan Ford Tractor and Supply. In 1972 he began work for the Pottawatomie County Highway Department, where he was shop foreman. He retired in 1992. Mr. Unscheid was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, a past member of St. Josephs Knights of Columbus, and a lifetime member of St. George Black Jack American Legion Post 260. He married Marjorie L. Bluthardt on Sept. 16, 1952, at St. Josephs Catholic Church at Flush. She survives. She married Ted Sumner and had four children, Jeanette, Donald, Dottie and Teddy. She lived in Colorado Springs for two years and then moved to Topeka. She worked for Lu and Cleo in two restaurants and then worked for the Blue Moon Restaurant. She then worked for the Union Pacific for many years. When the depot closed, the railroad asked her to go to Omaha or California. She also worked at the Supply Depot at Forbes, at Stormont-Vail and then at St. Francis Hospital until 1983 ,at which time she retired. She married her second husband, Alvin Leroy Mullin, on June 4, 1949. They had two children , Nancy Kay Mullin and Bob L. Mullin. Mrs. Mullin attended Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Nancy Kay Mullin in 1958 and Dottie Lee Brunin in 1997; and a son, Teddy Charles Sumner, in 1996. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Alvin "Al" Leroy Mullin, on Aug. 15, 2001. He was born Jan. 5, 1918, in Neodesha, the son of Paul H. Rohde, member, board of directors of Standard Oil Co. of Kansas, and Edith Quinn Rohde, a descendant of Benjamin Franklin. Mr. Rohde graduated from Liberty Memorial High School, Lawrence, in 1935 and received a bachelor of arts degree in English from The University of Kansas in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Rohde was a long-time antique dealer in Topeka and owned and operated Rohdes Antiques. He was appointed by four Kansas governors to four terms on the Kansas Arts Commission, which was more than any other commissioner. He was a 15-year member of the board of directors of the Mid-America Arts Alliance. He served one term in the Kansas Silver-Haired Legislature, two terms on the Kansas Humanities Council and one term on the Kansas Film Commission. Upon completion of these appointments, Marian Cott, chairman of the Kansas Humanities Council, wrote and thanked Mr. Rhode for serving on more cultural arts boards than anyone in the past and probably into the future. He was a member of the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas and was a founding member and first president of the Sons of the American Revolution, Benjamin Franklin Chapter, Southeast Kansas. His other memberships include AARP, The Kansas Society Sons of the American Revolution, Mercy Hospital Foundation donor, Neodesha Chamber of Commerce, The University of Kansas Alumni Association, Spencer Museum of Art, Concerned Citizens for Topeka Inc., Mid-America Arts Alliance and the Mulvane Art Museum. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, a life member of the Topeka Zoo and the Audubon Society and was a member of Topeka Womens Club and Phi Delta Theta Mothers Club. Mrs. Tuttle traveled extensively, including most European and Baltic countries, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Panama, Costa Rica, China, the Arctic and Antarctica. He was born Sept. 30, 1947, at Sabetha, the son of Leland and Genevieve Dutton Windmeyer. He grew up near Highland where he attended schools and graduated from high school in 1965. He attended Highland Junior College for a short time. Mr. Windmeyer worked for Flair Fold wood fabrication plant in Hiawatha for many years before working for Schwans Sales in Hiawatha, where he was promoted to sales manager and moved to Graham, Texas, for a total of 13 years. He returned to Topeka three-and-a-half years ago and worked for Harrahs Prairie Band Casino on the Potawatomi Reservation south of Holton. Mr. Windmeyer started in maintenance before being promoted recently to purchasing agent. He also received the honor of "Star of the Month" with the casino. In his early years, he attended Zion United Methodist Church, northeast of Robinson. He was also a life member of the Handyman Club of America. He collected Hot Wheels toy cars and John Deere toy tractors. He was married to Diann Mendez on Sept. 29, 1972, in Hiawatha. She survives. Mrs. Schrader was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hiawatha and had attended the First Baptist Church of Hiawatha and the Alturist Sunday School class of the church. She was a charter member of the Rainbow Community Club of Hiawatha. She married William E. Schrader, Sept. 22, 1946, in Hiawatha. They farmed and raised livestock north of Hiawatha all of their married life until his death Sept. 27, 1985. Shortly after his death, Mrs. Schrader moved to town. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Nellie Wegener and Marie Kendall; two brothers, Paul Bruning and Omar Bruning. Mrs. Bowen was a nurse. She was born Jan. 18, 1917, at Hazleton, Pa., to Norman and Elva Morrison Sachs. She graduated from St. Lukes Nursing School, Bethlehem, Pa., in 1934. She had lived in the Topeka area since 1939. Mrs. Bowen was a member of the D.F. chapter of PEO, past president of the Shawnee County Medical Auxiliary and a past board of directors member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and had served on the pastoral committee. She was a past board of directors member of Stormont-Vail Hospital Auxiliary and the Topeka Tuberculosis Association. She was a Cub Scout den mother. She married Harry J. Bowen Jr. on Jan. 5, 1939, at Hazleton, Pa. He died Oct. 12, 1994. Survivors include two sons, Roderick M. Bowen, Topeka, and Harry J. Bowen III, Eskridge; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Hope Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. She was born May 26, 1908, in Minneapolis, Kan., the daughter of James W. and Ada Laughlin Barkley. She graduated from Manhattan High School and attended Kansas State University. Mrs. Chalmers was an educational secretary with Manhattan High School and USD 501at Randolph Elementary and Topeka High School, until retiring in 1973. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Topeka Association of Educational Office Personnel and National Association of Office Personnel. She married William R. Chalmers on March 29, 1934, in Topeka. He preceded her in death April 14, 1988. Survivors include two daughters, Jane C. McClain, Kansas City, Mo., and Joann Kelyman, Englewood, Colo.; a son, Glenn B. Chalmers, Little Rock, Ark.; a grandson, Tom McClain, Pleasanton, Calif.; two granddaughters, Susan McClain, Topeka, and Kristen Chalmers, Maumelle, Ark.; and two great granddaughters, Ayla McClain, Topeka, and Samantha McClain, Pleasanton, Calif. He was a business education teacher in Waverly and Sedan, and also taught at Highland Park and Topeka West High School in Topeka, where he retired. He was born March 31, 1925, in Kansas City, Mo., to Charles and Clara Smith Conklin. He received a masters degree in business education at Emporia State University. Mr. Conklin was active in Boy Scouts of America, and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran . He married Shirley Hanes on Sept. 8, 1949, in Coffeyville. She survives. Also surviving are five children, Jan Conklin, Steve Conklin, Anna Reese, Peggy Smith and Scott H. Conklin, all of Topeka; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a brother, John R. She was born Aug. 18, 1962, in Kansas City, Kan., to Merrill D. and Lois Athon. She was severely disabled with Downs Syndrome and lived most her life at the Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka. Miss Athon was christened at Hillcrest Covenant Church in Prairie Village. Christey, 73, Topeka, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at his home in Topeka. Mr. Christey practiced law in Topeka for many years. He was a special motor carrier examiner for the Kansas Corporation Commission. In recent years, he served as special administrative law judge for compensation settlement hearings. He graduated from Washburn University and was a member of Alpha Delta Fraternity. In 1956, he graduated from Washburn. School of Law, where he served as chairman of the Student Bar Association. He also served as chairman of the Junior Bar Section of the Kansas Bar Association. He was chairman of the Shawnee County Young Republican Club and first vice president of the Kansas Young Republicans. He served as the First District Young Republican chairman and also served on the executive committee of the Kansas Commission of the Federation of Young Republicans. He had served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was born Oct. 16, 1929, in Caldwell, the son of Clayton and Agnes Christey. He married Thelma Ann Stous on Aug. 5, 1951, in Holton. She died July 19, 2002, in Topeka. A daughter, Sandy, preceded him in death in 1980. A daughter, Susan R. Christey, survives in Topeka. Mr. Christey was a member of the American Legion, Topeka Kiwanis Club, Countryside United Methodist Church and the Kansas Motor Carriers Association. She was born July 24, 1908, in Lyon County, to Albert Daniel and Ettie J. McClelland Foster. She married Hurshal A. Collinge on Dec. 31, 1930, at Lawrence. He died July 25, 1979, in Topeka. Surviving are a daughter, Thelma Schroeder, Topeka; and a granddaughter, Stacy Forgy, Topeka. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, brothers Frank Foster, Albert Foster and John Foster, and a granddaughter, Sandra Schroeder. He was born Sept. 25, 1941, in Cedar Vale, the son of Paul and Helen Fettig Buchele. He graduated from Cedar Vale High School and received a BS of Agricultural Economics from Kansas State University in 1962, a Juris Doctorate from Washburn University in 1966, and a Master in Judicial Studies from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1988. Judge Buchele served as a State Representative in the Kansas Legislature for four terms, from 1965 to 1972. From 1966 to 1975, he was in private law practice in Topeka, and from 1970 to 1972, he served as Topeka City Attorney. He served as the Administrative Assistant for Congresswoman Martha Keys from 1975 to 1977. In 1977, he was appointed by President Jimmy Carter, as U.S. Attorney, District of Kansas, where he served until 1981. He became a District Judge in 1981, and served until his retirement in October, 1999. Since retirement, he sat as a Senior Judge on the Kansas Court of Appeals, and has served as a mediator/arbitrator and was a partner of Associates in Dispute Resolution. He was admitted to practice in the Kansas Supreme Court, U.S. District Court, District of Kansas, U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He was a member of the American and Kansas Bar Associations, American Trial Lawyers Association, Kansas District Judges Association, American Judicature Society, and was a Kansas Bar Foundation Fellow. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral, and served as President in 2002 of the Topeka South Rotary Club. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at Kansas State University and the Phi Alpha Delta fraternity at Washburn University. He was past-president of Topeka Civic Theatre, Thunderbolt Track Club and Topeka Ballet. He was married to Bonnie Cadwalader on Dec. 28, 1965. They divorced. He married Paula Norden on Oct. 3, 1998, in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include his mother, Helen Buchele, Topeka; a daughter, Amy Buchele-Ash, and her husband, Gregory Ash, Lawrence; a son, Bradley Buchele, Lake Waukomis, Mo.; two step-daughters, Krista Norden, West Chester, Pa., and Jaelle Norden, Topeka; a sister, Verona Buchele, Raytown, Mo.; a brother, Kenneth Buchele, Emporia; and a granddaughter, Isabel Ash, Lawrence. He was born Feb. 12, 1920, to the late Arthur and Ethel Corbett of Emporia. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Louise; an infant son, Bruce; and sister, Barbara Corbett. Surviving are his sons, David Corbett, Wilson, N.C., and Robert P. Corbett, Emporia; and a daughter, Nancy Corbett, Topeka. Bob served in New Guinea with the Army in WW II. He later earned a law degree from Washburn University and was in private practice with his wife in Sabetha. He later worked for the Kansas State Corporation Commission and owned Corbett-Miller Insurance Agency. Before his retirement, he was the attorney for the Kansas State Board of Health. He also owned and managed the Devon Apartments in Topeka. Bob was an avid golfer and a long-term member of Rotary Club International. Mr. Corbett was cremated. He was born June 22, 1943, at Reynosa, Mexico, the son of Ruben and Juana Garza Aldape. He was raised in Texas. He graduated from trade school in St. Paul, Minn. He came to Topeka in 1979. He became a citizen in 1981. Mr. Aldape was a laborer in Topeka. Mr. Aldape was a member of Assumption Catholic Church. He also attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He married Eppie Cordero on Jan. 23, 1961, in Herford, Texas. She survives at their home in Topeka. Other survivors include his stepfather, German Garza Sr., Mission, Texas; six sons, Paulino Jr., in Iowa, Richard, Hutchinson, Ruben and Jesse, both of Topeka, and Johnny, in Texas; three daughters, Mary Rangel, Diana Ortiz and Annabelle Galicia, all of Topeka; brothers, Joe Aldape, Ruben Aldape and Seferino Garza, all of Mission, Texas, and German Garza and and Jimmy Garza, both in Texas; two sisters, Ma.
